Book on leaders leaving political office

In her latest book ‘Losing Political Office’, dr. Jane Roberts analyses the different impacts of leaving political office. Representative democracy depends on politicians exiting office, and yet while there is considerable interest in who stands for and gains office, there is curiously little discussed about this process. Drawing on in-depth interviews conducted with British politicians, this book seeks to address this gap by asking: What is the experience like? What happens to politicians as they make the transition from office? What is the impact on their partners and family? Does it matter to anyone other than those immediately affected? Are there any wider implications for our democratic system? The book may appeal to academics in the fields of leadership, political science, public management and administration and psychology.

2017 IASIA-MENAPAR Conference with public leadership panel

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) and the Middle East & North Africa Public Administration Research Network (MENAPAR) in close collaboration with the General Personnel Council (GPC), are organizing the 2017 IASIA-MENAPAR Joint Conference to be held from 3-7 July 2017 in Ramallah, Palestine. 

The conference will bring together practitioners, academics, PhD students and young researchers in public administration and management, as well as contributors from any other disciplines who will exchange on the following main theme: Public Administration’s role in building and consolidating post-conflict states. The call for papers can be downloaded on the conference website

Panel discussion on political leadership in the EU

This event will present and discuss research findings on various aspects of political leadership in the EU: the performance of individual leaders, the strategic choices of EU institutions, and the role of individuals and institutions in specific circumstances and issue areas. Main issues for discussion are: Is the European Union “leaderless” or, else, does it have too many leaders? What are the opportunities and constraints for exercising leadership at European level? What is the impact of supranational and intergovernmental leadership on the course of integration? To what extent can individual leaders put their footprint on EU affairs? Target audiences include CoR members, officials of EU institutions, Permanent Representations of the Member States, representatives from regional offices, interest groups and civil society organisations as well as academics. The event will be followed by a reception.

ILA Conference CfP: Leadership in Turbulent Times

From 12-15 October 2017 the International Leadership Association’s 19th Annual Global Conference: Leadership in Turbulent Times will take place in Brussels, Belgium.

Call for Proposals Deadline: 1 February 2017

The International Leadership Association seeks proposals from the global community that represent the best contemporary thinking about leadership from a diverse range of leadership scholars and researchers, coaches and consultants, educators and students, executives and public leaders, thought-leaders and other leadership professionals.

The conference theme, Leadership in Turbulent Times, along with six tracks that focus more broadly on leadership in education, scholarship and research, development and coaching, business, public, and youth will be explored during pre-conference workshops, keynote presentations, concurrent sessions (papers, panels, presentations, symposia, and workshops), roundtable discussions, and poster sessions.

FASPE summer leadership fellowship: Deadline 12 January

ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT TO APPLY!

FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics in Business) is now accepting applications for its 2017 Business program.

 

FASPE Business is a fully-funded, two-week summer program that uses the conduct of executives and managers in Nazi Germany as a launching point and backdrop for an intensive study of contemporary business ethics and leadership. FASPE Business is predicated upon the power of place. Fellows visit Auschwitz and other sites in Germany and Poland where they consider how to apply the lessons of history to the ethical challenges they will face in their careers.

In 2017, the program will take place from Sunday, May 21 to Friday, June 2. (Fellows are expected to arrive in Europe by Saturday, May 20) All program costs are covered, including round-trip travel from New York to Europe, European travel, lodging, and food. FASPE Business Fellows travel and share some seminars with Fellows in the FASPE Journalism and Law programs.

FASPE Business is open to American and European MBA and MSC students and those who have received their MBA or MSC degrees between January 2015 and January 2017.
